I love Mystery Thrillers but I did not love this one。The book opens with a chapter about a crime we will return to later, nothing out of the norm of a mystery book。 We then follow two other POVs, Carrie’s -- the bride-to-be, and Andi’s -- the FBI Agent。Carrie is a nurse and is the bride-to-be of a seemingly perfect guy, Oliver。 He is rich and handsome, and most importantly, he cares for her。 After a mysterious present arrives at their doorstep, Oliver starts acting weird which drives Carrie into I love Mystery Thrillers but I did not love this one。The book opens with a chapter about a crime we will return to later, nothing out of the norm of a mystery book。 We then follow two other POVs, Carrie’s -- the bride-to-be, and Andi’s -- the FBI Agent。Carrie is a nurse and is the bride-to-be of a seemingly perfect guy, Oliver。 He is rich and handsome, and most importantly, he cares for her。 After a mysterious present arrives at their doorstep, Oliver starts acting weird which drives Carrie into overthinking。The morning after their wedding party, Oliver was found dead in their hotel room, with Carrie as the main suspect。 Luckily, FBI Agent Andi Castle was present at the scene, thanks to Lana, Carrie’s co-worker, who brought Andi as a plus one。 Now it’s in Agent Castle’s hands to solve this murder。This book brought a lot of frustration to me in the form of Agent Castle。 Nobody can stop talking about her, not even herself。 We have read so much about what she does, about her absolutely irrelevant love life, about what junk food she eats, and most of all about her father。I didn’t like that Agent Castle appeared to be the only one with the “brain” in the investigative team, and every single person was ready to jump to the simplest conclusion their tiny little brains could muster。The narrative failed to convince me that Agent Castle is an experienced FBI Agent。 For someone who was “scouted” to join the force out of college, she did not exude competency to me。 Nothing she does is covert, her deduction skills are terrible, and her interrogation skills even more so。 40% of this book could have been chopped off if only she dropped the Columbo Method, and just literally looked at what was in front of her。**WARNING: SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT**I like how the author built Carrie’s character。 Her POV screams about insecurities and overthinking。 She thinks she is not worthy of Oliver。 She thinks his parents hate her。 She thinks her own parents hate her。 I like that there’s a subtlety here in how the author tried to build the foundations of someone who is psychologically unstable。 This would have been a great setup。 However, I strongly dislike the message that this book paints。 I hated how Agent Castle’s whole identity revolved around the fact that she was her father’s daughter and that she didn’t want to be like him, but she was。 And so was Carrie。 And I just could not, and would not accept that。Aside from being her biological father, Carries has absolutely no connection with Norman Morrow, the serial killer。 He did not raise her and she didn’t have the slightest idea who her father was until later。 It is illogical for me to accept that she ended up exactly as he was。I did not like that the “correct answer” was the most obvious one。 I especially did not like how this book tackles issues like body dysmorphia, mental health, and addiction。 And above all, I refuse to subscribe to the idea that we are our blood。 Many thanks to the Author, NetGalley, and Nerdy Girls Collective for providing me with an early copy of the book。 Given the nature of my critique, I sincerely hope that the author never stumbles upon this review。 。。。more

This was a wild ride from start to finish, just not in the best way。 The book starts by introducing the reader to so many, mostly inconsequential, characters。 I found the first several chapters difficult to get through for this reason。 The beginning and middle were almost unbearably slow, the start of the end was great, and the end of the end was confusing。 The conclusion was truly a ‘never saw it coming’, but in a bad way。 I didn’t feel a great deal of suspense, and the twist didn’t strike as w This was a wild ride from start to finish, just not in the best way。 The book starts by introducing the reader to so many, mostly inconsequential, characters。 I found the first several chapters difficult to get through for this reason。 The beginning and middle were almost unbearably slow, the start of the end was great, and the end of the end was confusing。 The conclusion was truly a ‘never saw it coming’, but in a bad way。 I didn’t feel a great deal of suspense, and the twist didn’t strike as well as I’d have liked。 The FBI agent, Andi Castle, is nigh insufferable, as well as her father and their relationship。 I will admit that I did not want the murderer to be who it was。 I feel like I would have been fine with it being this person if the conclusion would have made more sense, or if it was different。  。。。more

Special thank you to NetGalley, L。 R。 Jones and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC of this psychological suspense thriller。 Very much enjoyed the story and characters - did not entirely see how all of the puzzle pieces would fit together in the end, but it was a good twist。 Would recommend this book to others。

Just okay。 Nothing memorable, but not bad either。

3 StarsYour typical whodunit mystery。Someone gets murdered at a bachelor/bachelorette party。The party takes place at the hotel where The Shining was filmed。A detective happens to be part of the party and starts the investigation。The povs were the bride to be and the detective。The bride has sudden memory loss after the murder。 I found it good but very predictable。

This book was different than I was expecting。 I was expecting a thriller and it was more of a crime novel。 A crime novel with a thriller elements so it was the best of both worlds。 My favorite character was Andi, the FBI agent。 She knows how to handle people to get the information she needs and she doesn’t stop until the case is solved。 The ending was not what I was expecting at all and it fit the book perfectly。 A great read!!!

Hard to follow This is the first book I've read by this author。 Trying to keep track of the characters was a chore and the book was far longer than it needed to be。 The last 40 pages were good。 But, it was painful to get to that point。 Hard to follow This is the first book I've read by this author。 Trying to keep track of the characters was a chore and the book was far longer than it needed to be。 The last 40 pages were good。 But, it was painful to get to that point。 。。。more

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway and loved it。 The short chapters made it easy to stop when needed, but I didn’t want to put it down。 I thought I had it figured out and then there was always another twist! Definitely recommend this book。

Ugh, so frustrating。 I love whodunits, thrillers and police procedurals and this one could have been good or at least entertaining。 But it was not good。 The writing was very amateurish。 It was all over the place。 Characters underdeveloped。 Weird father daughter relationships。 Glorifying police brutality。 The pace was all over the place。 And those were not twists and turns, those were pointlessly driving around in circles and twists and it gave me more of a motion sickness feeling。

What a great introduction to LR Jones! She is a new author to me and this book grabbed me and held me。 The premise of a bachelor/bachelorette weekend provides the setting for murder。 An FBI agent who appeared to be a peripheral character becomes the main character who is trying to catch a killer。 This book provided intrigue, twists and turns and an ending I could not have imagined! I really enjoyed this book and will be looking for more of this author’s work。

The story was good, the book itself was a little bit long winded。 You don’t find out who the killer is until the last couple of pages is the book。
